Ben Hassinger and Chinese friends at a folk music class at MSU on August 8, 2006.

August 8, 2006 - The class took place on this date in Wells Hall. We had about 20 Chinese College students that were here for a three week introduction to MSU along with my Korean Fellows and their families. A great time was had by all!

Howdy Ben,

Had this idea to contact you and see if there is a way to use your talent in a class I am teaching here at MSU.

My name is William R. Eubank and my wife is Leslie Watson Eubank. She has been a long time fan of yours and since I married her I have attended several of your sets and enjoy the music greatly.

Ben Hassinger and a Chinese college student at a folk music class at MSU on August 8, 2006.

Between July 25 and August 10 I am teaching a six session class to some International Visiting Scholars - an introductory class on American Folk Music. The classes are scheduled for the following dates and times: July 25, 10:30 to 12:00 to Aug 10, 10:30 to 12:00

I was in hopes of getting one of you Mystic Shakers to come along with a banjo, guitar, etc. that doesn't need any fancy electronic connections and play to just a small group.

These students will be mostly adult Korean professionals that understand a good bit of English BUT are not traditional college students in any sense of the term..

Hope to hear from you.

I’m excited to be part of your folk music class! Can you provide me with an outline of the curriculum, so I can start putting some ideas together? We’ll keep in touch about the August 8 date, but if you can give me some input early, that will help me plan.

Thanks, I’ll see you soon!

We saw John perform at Ben's place on the 20th and followed him up to Mackinaw Island August 23, 2006 for a dinner show.

August 20, 2006 "Our last concert of the summer is going to be a great one - a quadruple-header featuring John D. Lamb ( with guests Ben Hassenger, Art Cameron & Michael Hunt on Sunday, at our home in Haslett.

John is the one person most responsible (or to blame, depending on your point of view) for my renewed interest in songwriting and performing. His Lamb's Retreat for Songwriters, held every fall in beautiful Harbor Springs, features talented national artists and a great group of Michigan songwriters of all levels, a wonderful weekend to get away and work on the things we love best (beside our significant others of course): writing and playing music. John is a
talented performer and songwriter who has spent many years on the road honing his craft, you will enjoy him tremendously! Featured with John are myself, Art Cameron, and Michael Hunt - all Mid-Michigan alumni of Lamb's Retreat. We will each play a few of our own songs, including at
least one song assignment from our sessions at the retreats. All proceeds will benefitSpringfed Arts, John's non-profit organization to encourage creativity in songwriting and non-musical writing. This will be an outdoor concert, set under the pines, come on out for
a great night of music!"

September 9, 2006 Lansing, Michigan at the Cappuccino Cafe - Another visit to the Cappuccino Cafe in Lansing, Michigan for an evening of fun with the music of the band Mystic Shake.

I can say that a great portion of Ben's music is indelibly and permanently imprinted on my brain. I think I said: "You have ruined my mind - with Vocie of Summer". I can seem to get that song out of my mind. We had a great time Ben!
